Hydrobates pelagicus

Hydrobates pelagicus, commonly known as the European Storm-petrel, is a small seabird that breeds on remote islands and coastal cliffs, including some areas of Croatia.

This species is remarkable for its graceful flight and ability to hover over the water while foraging for small fish and zooplankton, which it catches by skimming the surface with its long, slender wings. The European Storm-petrel is best known for its characteristic "stormy" behaviour, often appearing in large numbers during stormy weather.

Breeding colonies are typically found in rocky crevices, where they nest in burrows, providing a safe haven for their young. Protecting coastal habitats and minimizing disturbance in these breeding areas is essential to ensure the continued survival of this charming seabird in the region.
